Description

Comedic geniuses Tina Fey (30 Rock, Saturday Night Exist) and Amy Poehler (Saturday Night Exist) team up to celebrate a modern twist on motherhood! Kate (Fey) is a single, successful career woman who wants something extra: a baby. But she gets extra than she bargained for when she hires Angie (Poehler), a free spirit from South Philly, to be her surrogate in a hysterical mama match-up. From birth class to baby-proofing, they’re the ultimate odd couple this critics are calling “the excellent female comedy duo since Lucy and Ethel” (Claudia Puig, USA Today). Together with hilarious performances from an all-star cast featuring Greg Kinnear, Dax Shepard, and Sigourney Weaver, Baby Mama is as full of laughs as it is heart!
Laughter and hearty guffaws abound in this comical look at 37-year-old career woman Kate Holbrook's (30 Rock's Tina Fey) desperate strives to have a baby. Never intellect this she's not married and has never been involved in a serious relationship; Kate wants a baby and will stop at virtually nothing to get one. Afterwards failed strives at broaching the concept of conception together with first dates and trying artificial insemination together with the help of a sperm bank, Kate locates out this her t-formed uterus leaves her together with only a one in a million chance of conceiving a kid. Adoption doesn't work out and she's left together with the distasteful option of hiring a surrogate mother. Enter Chaffee Bicknell's (Sigourney Weaver) surrogate service and her recommendation of the working-class Angie Ostrowiski (Saturday Night Exist's Amy Poehler) who, together with her common-law husband Carl (Dax Shepard), is just desperate enough to get on the job in order to do some money, and the stage is set for baby making. As fate would have it, Angie and Carl break up just afterwards Angie announces she's pregnant and Angie ends up moving in together with Kate. Unfortunately, the two are fully incompatible and what ensues is a hysterical struggle to coexist while clashing over everything from proper nutrition to stroller selection, hair dye, and delivery options. Further complicating matters is Kate's budding relationship together with ex-lawyer and juice-store owner Rob (Greg Kinnear), who just happens to be morally opposed to the whole concept of surrogate parenting. Finally, there's the question of just how fully Angie embraces the virtue of honesty. It's the juxtaposition of opposing viewpoints--so boldly stated, humorously set, and blatantly exploited--this makes this witty comedy so darn funny. Expect graphic references, raunchy humor, and a whole lot of laughter. --Tami Horiuchi

Customer Reviews

Customer rating is 5 of 5  Well written film, just lose your preconceptions (no pun intended)   2010-06-27

The first time I saw this film I was a little disappointed because I was expecting a Saturday Night Live style comedy, which this is not. When I watched it a second time, i appreciated this for what it is... a comedy with really funny writing. The acting is great, but they rely on the writing (how a real actor works) and do not try to trump the script... although they are really brilliant comedians. I really like this film, makes me laugh every time. Just appreciate it without expecting Saturday Night live style humor.
Customer rating is 5 of 5  Should be required viewing for all potential parents   2010-05-02

This movie did not get the acclaim it deserved as a hilarious romp with unforgettable characters. Tina Fey is perfect, of course. But Amy Poehler, Greg Kinnear, Sigourney Weaver, Dax Shepherd and Steve Martin provide moments of hysteria and unforgettable lines as well. The actresses who play the grandmother and sister do great work as well. A must for all Tina Fey/Amy Poehler fans, but it is a great comedy that any parent would also enjoy. Cameos by lots of SNL alums/current castmembers as well. Good pace, great musical score. Loved it.
Customer rating is 5 of 5  Hilarious!!!!   2010-04-10

This movie is hilarious!! I watched it over and over because I couldn't stop laughing. Amy Poehler is supposed to be a low class woman who's been hired by Tina Fey to be her surrogate, but although the director tries to convey Amy in a trashy way, she's just to cute to be trashy. I love Amy in Parks and Recreation and after watching this movie, I love her even more.
Customer rating is 2 of 5  Not even 1/2 as good as commercials suggested!   2010-02-18

I remember seeing the commercial for this movie and saying "I Have to see that". I finally got around to renting it and I was sooooooooo disappointed! These 2 women were so funny on SNL that I was expecting belly laugh after belly laugh. WRONG! The writers/directors should have taken advantage of the comedy duo and made the movie a real 'pee in your pants' flick. I waited and waited for the jokes but they rarely came. Go rent "The Hangover" if you want a GREAT comedy.
