Description
Katherine Heigl (Knocked up, TV's Grey's Anatomy) lights up the screen in this charming romantic comedy from the screenwriter of The Devil Wears Prada." Heigl stars as Jane, a romantic, fully selfless woman who has been a bridesmaid in no less than 27 weddings. Unfortunately her own happy ending seems to be nowhere in sight. Until her younger sister Tess captures the heart of Jane's boss -- on whom Jane has a secret crush inspiring Jane to modify her "always-a-bridesmaid" destiny.
Katherine Heigl is delightful as Jane, a self-effacing Gal Friday so addicted to organizing weddings in her off time, this 27 Dresses opens together with her character juggling two nuptials on the same night. A perpetual bridesmaid, Jane’s hobby is discovered by a matrimony reporter named Kevin (James Marsden), who hides a romantic side behind his wall of cynicism. While Kevin gradually develops feelings for Jane, the latter’s superficial sister, Tess (Malin Akerman), pursues George (Edward Burns), Jane’s boss and the object of her love. This romantic circle could go on forever, except this Jane is unexpectedly moved by Kevin despite her general irritation together with him and not including knowing this he’s on the verge of sandbagging her together with a ridiculing article in his newspaper. The situation is absurd, but the emotions are not. Heigl is very good, rooted in a long tradition of comely comediennes playing characters who fly under the radar of life. She makes Jane’s pain palpable and conveys her character’s inability to say no not including making her look unappealing or weak. Marsden completely captures the part of a rumpled, underdressed writer together with repressed passions, Akerman is as convincingly shrewish here as she was in The Heartbreak Kid, and Burns is fine as one of those guys so busy saving the world he barely pays attention to the people in his life. You are obviously in High School or a mentally challenged adult. This story is so far beyond stupid, that watching it was painful. I hear people call this film a 'chick flick' but what does that mean. So far I have discovered that it usually means a movie that involves a juvenile romance where they often start out hating each other, which in Hollywood means they'll be in love by the end of the movie (yawn), comedy thats not funny often involving the same jokes that Hollywood has used in it's last 1000 romantic comedies, and an assumption that the audience is so stupid that everything must be explained to us. They need to change the term "chick flick' to 'dumb-chick flicks'. NO ONE, male or female, capable of using more than 3-syllable words could sit through this typical Hollywood trash. My guess is your under HS for several reasons. First, making the statement that women will love this movie and men will hate it shows a fundamental lack of experience with women. Do all men love 'action' movies and all women hate them. Second you explain the 1 star rating is based "this rating is based entirely on script and (which is) lacking in reality" Sorry, but I had to correct your grammar. Maybe you don't go to a very good school. ..then you go on to say that the "overall story was fine". I believe that the screenwriter uses the story to write the script. In a sense they are synonymous. T So what exactly do you mean? How can the script be bad and the story be good? The story was good? No, and I only have illuminate one scene to show just how bad the films message was. Why I don't know, but there a scene where she poses in those dresses, which her journalist friend photographs (gee, you might think "I wonder what he's going to do with those picture, esp. because the dresses are embarrassing). Of course her journalist finds he's in love with her (why, I can't say since the only thing she values is trying on wedding dresses in the hopes of marriage, SHE'S BORING). Since he's in love with her he can't humiliate her and let the pictures be published, but he can't stop them from going to print. Of course, she forgives and marries him, but she never seems to give a thought to the fact that if he wasn't in love with her the pictures would be printed or that he would be perfectly willing to humiliate another girl (as long as he didn't fall in love with her or she doesn't get the paper) which clearly makes him someone who puts ambition before other peoplss feelings. He's not heroic, hes an insensitive jerk. So in a way they are perfect for each other, one shallow and too conventional to ever think outside the box and the other a plain insensitive jerk. The common language of the world isn't math, it's stupidity. And sadly, Hollywood has it in spades. Worse they insults our intellect and make us dumber by handing us every explaining every detail, so we don't ever have to think critically.

This is a cute film with a good cast. I don't think I would spend much for the DVD but when you get it at rental price it is worth seeing without commercials. It is good enough for all ages. Possibly it would help some not to be a door mat.

Overall, this is a fun lighthearted movie that moves at a brisk pace. I recommend seeing it, it's a chick flick but it's funny enough that guys will be able to watch it too. *spoilers ahead* This is a cute movie. Katherine Heigl plays her beautiful a and neurotic self (why do they always make her neurotic?) in a typical rom-com that revolves around a woman's competing desires for two different guys. One of those two guys is a bit darker, the other a bit nicer, in this story the main character goes for the nicer guy.

I'm a sap for romantic comedies. They're like junk food: predictable but satisfying as long as you don't expect too much from them. And I don't, so I'm rarely disappointed. But this movie is an un-engaging borefest. Anyone who says otherwise is a terrible, terrible person who likely eats babies, so don't believe them. The characters were, in a word, dull. You never really feel the love, or the anger, or the cheesy humor that in turns marks every romantic comedy. I didn't laugh once. Even the typical climax with the protagonist rushing to find the lover and declare her true feelings ... even this most reliable Romantic Comedy plot device fell flat. Do yourself a favor by skipping this movie and watching, or re-watching, Bridget Jones' Diaries. Bridge Jones would never hurt us. She cares for us and wants us to laugh. Unlike this mean, ugly, poopy movie monster with its horrid boringness.

A woman chronicles her sexual encounters with twenty-seven different partners. She wrestles with her past promiscuity as she tries to lure an unsuspecting gentlemen into marriage. I was expecting something more like the Emmanuel series or Life on Top but this is very very tame in comparison. Beware, no nudity!
